Jake was a friend and college classmate of my father, and became a great friend of mine over many weekends in Ephraim,WI. Jake had traveled widely for business and pleasure, and had varied interests. Among them: 19th & 20th century streamboats, growing orchids, carving duck decoys, cooking, and enviromental causes. He was generous in sharing his time and expertise, and was always great company. I'll miss his stories and sense of humor.

Cousin Jack and I spent portions of summers at each other's homes in Elgin or Burlington , Iowa and had a great time. He became interested in steam boating model construction and history after my father, Bob Burns, took us on an excursion on a real steamboat in about 1939 or 40. As Jack was becoming older I asked if he would consider giving his steam boating collection to the Mississippi River Museum in Dubuque, Iowa. He became a benefactor after that and I hope his remaining library will find a home there also.

Jake Rust and I were friends for nearly thirty-five years. He had a terrific appetite for life -- cars, food, museums, the cocktail hour -- and was a great companion. I will miss his ability to share a laugh and to lend a helping hand when it was necessary. Jake will continue to occupy a special place in my memory. Gratefully, e.s.

I will miss a truly great, intelligent, funny man with tremendous talents and a wide variety of interests. A unique individual with irrefutable irreplaceability. God bless you Jake, Love, Kerby
